That's right, you heard me, Seattle was selected by Kiplinger as the #2 best city to be in for the next decade!
Why? Because we are amazing of course! Or more succinctly put, Seattle is "home to a well-educated workforce, a world-class research university, über innovators Microsoft, Amazon and Boeing, and a host of risk-taking, garage-tinkering entrepreneurs, Seattle crackles with creative energy."
One thing that has Seattle's economy on the brink of take-off is Boeings 787 Dreamliner, their current orders for their other plane models, and their potential military contract.
Another factor, medical research. The University of Washington pumps a billion dollars into research each year and other medical research facilities are popping up throughout the city. "We have the greatest concentration of global health activities, in terms of discovery, development and delivery, of any place in the world," says Lisa Cohen, executive director of the Washington Global Health Alliance. "We can't hire fast enough."
Also, our "clean tech" industry is advanced and looked at as a nationwide model in terms of energy efficient and resource saving construction, architecture, and engineering. Companies that consult and put these practices into action are prevalent here and are laying the ground work for the rest of the country.
